An Electronic Laboratory Notebook for Routine Analyses can make it much easier for analysts, supervisors and managers to schedule, monitor and balance the laboratory workload by moving away from a paper-based workflow to on-line management of electronic forms throughout their life cycle.

Laboratory managers and supervisors can use the ELN client to assign new worksheets to individual analysts or analytical groups with a due date for completion and a priority level.

Analysts can see at a glance all of the worksheets that are scheduled for them or they can use filtering and sorting options to focus on work that is scheduled for that day, or worksheets with a specific priority or worksheets for a specific test or sample.

Before the analysis begins, the ELN is able to automatically check that every single requirement of the SOP is in place. Is the analyst qualified? Is their training up to date? Are they using the right instruments, etc?

If anything doesn’t meet the SOP requirements the process can be stopped or the ELN can guide the analyst through the steps they need to take to correct the condition before proceeding with the analysis.

Once the actual analysis begins the ELN can ensure that the analyst follows each and every step of the SOP and apply as much automation as possible to the process.

After the electronic worksheets are completed, they can be reviewed and approved on-line, completely eliminating the time and aggravation associated with circulating paper documents.
